DomainStudio Update

DomainStudio – the renamed QinetiX Domain Portfolio Administrator product is a bit behind schedule & delayed for a week or two.

There’s several reasons for this: Firstly I’ve had to deal with other admin/product/server/stuff issues surrounding the primary Anyname business which took up most of last week.

Contact issues II

Just a quick rant to request that anyone who contacts me and leaves an email address – excluding spam comments which get deleted with little though – please leave an email address that works!

This has happened quite frequently over the past few months. Maybe I’ll have to add a second confirm email field which cross checks before confirmation.

If you’ve sent me a contact and I’ve not got back to you – it’s probably because I can’t, not won’t.

QinetiX Domain Portfolio Administrator

The beta stage of the upcoming QinetiX Domain Portfolio Administrator has been completed, and is now at release candidate stage (RC1).

This is a from the ground up rewrite of some of the core features of the  stagnating WP Domain Portfolio product, itself based on the standalone domain name portfolio, and using the new QinetiX RAD-WP framework for creating PHP5 OOP WordPress Plugins for WordPress 2.7+. There are substantial differences, improvements, and new features, including new DB structures, categories and template tags. It allows a fully fledged domain portfolio site to be created within wordpress. The product also uses the new WordPress 2.7+ administration framework for ease of use.

PN2WP Updated

I’ve updated the Postnuke 2 WordPress migration tool to improve the directory path handling. It should work file with all releases of WordPress 2.7+ . Any problems please let me know.

Contact Form Issues

Looks like there are sporadic contact form issues where the input isn’t being recognised. A successful submit should display the sent message in green with a success message. If you’re having issues contacting us through the contact form please use your normal email program to send a message to admin[at]anyname[dot]co[dot]uk. Replacing the parenthesis with dots of course.

Update: Hopefully these are fixed now…. thanks wordpress for not fixing the ‘failed upgrade’ bug, or adding a new ‘feature’ to the spaghetti code that is WordPress Core!

PhishingII – Reading The URL

Most of us come from a western culture where reading is performed left to right. It’s natural therefore to automatically read the a web site URL from left to right to understand where the link is from. The DNS systems – which controls how and where data between browser -> internet -> server is routed works the other way – from right to left. Many Phishers and email scammers have used this to their advantage.

PHP closing tag and tags with html

I had a problem recently with ‘headers already sent’ which was traced to white-space at the end of an included php file which because of the php.ini error level was displaying an error to browser and catching out the header() function.

In the past I’ve always put a trailing ?> tag in a php file to match the mandatory

I’ve Voted – Have You…?

Nominet’s annual AGM this July is a bit more of an interesting event than in normal years. The political in-fighting, government intrusion, and general malaise at the heart of the Nominet membership-board relationship has brough to a head certain issues that the ongoing governance review and AGM vote will go some way to address… or not. Time will tell

Domain Tasting – In All But Name

Domain tasting is the practice of registering an expired domain on release into the available domain pool in order to monitor its natural traffic. In cases of poor traffic the domain is released before the invoice is due to be paid. The domain has been ‘tasted’. It’s prevalent in the .com community.

QinetiX APM – Affiliate Product Marketing

David over at affiliate-stores has mentioned the separation of Affilistore Enhanced from AffiliStore here. The two products have diverged significantly since the fork at AffiliStore 2.01. Steve at AffiliStore has plans for a new AffiliStore Licenced Product. As such we have agreed a separation of the two. Affilistore Enhanced 2.6 will be rebranded as QinetiX APM.
