Pitiful excuses for a DRS – it’s still not working!

I got a DRS notification recently. Fortunately the submission details were wrong and so it was invalid. But it gave me an excuse to look at the actual complaint and vent my anger/frustration at the still imperfect .uk DRS system and the glaring opportunity they missed when the system was reviewed recently.

QinetiX Domain Portfolio Administrator

The beta stage of the upcoming QinetiX Domain Portfolio Administrator has been completed, and is now at release candidate stage (RC1).

This is a from the ground up rewrite of some of the core features of the  stagnating WP Domain Portfolio product, itself based on the standalone domain name portfolio, and using the new QinetiX RAD-WP framework for creating PHP5 OOP Wordpress Plugins for Wordpress 2.7+. There are substantial differences, improvements, and new features, including new DB structures, categories and template tags. It allows a fully fledged domain portfolio site to be created within wordpress. The product also uses the new Wordpress 2.7+ administration framework for ease of use.

Nominet’s annual AGM this July is a bit more of an interesting event than in normal years. The political in-fighting, government intrusion, and general malaise at the heart of the Nominet membership-board relationship has brough to a head certain issues that the ongoing governance review and AGM vote will go some way to address… or not. Time will tell

The phishers & scammers have realised that domains are pretty valuable commodities these days, and as the word is out that banks don’t send emails asking for your personal information they have expanded their repetoire to domains and trying to get access to accounts to transfer them.
