Project Overload…
The phrases ‘best laid plans of mice and men’ and ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’ both spring to mind. Both a result of ‘project overload’.
No, not some MI5 codeword, just a state of having too many fingers in too many pies, having too many projects on the go and getting none of them finished for jumping from one to the next.
As I’ve mentioned in he past I don’t make new year’s resolutions, just have a end of year – start of year review and plan out the next few months. A move to a new development machine, along with the incumbent 5years worth of dross has brought all this to a head… and taken a few weeks to sort out. A realisation of just how many part finished projects, classes, API’s there are and how many of them are complete or fully live!
So, for now there is a moritorium on any new projects being started (however much I get itchy about it – they just get added to a project todo list). The rest have been put on a structured FIFO list:
- – Portfolio Rationalisation – move a significant section of the portfolio from parked pages to standalone sites. Phase I – basic search box sites. Phase II later on will be categorised mini-sites. Phase III -more complex info-sites, ecommerce & affiliate sites
- – DACr – Phase II – backend restructure & server move – which will mean some downtime. It will also define when the project ends.
- – DomainStudio – Finish the refactoring of the DomainStudio WP plugin and make it WP 2.9+ compatable. Release v1.
- – WP-APM – complete the core work for the WP Affiliates Plugin
- – Refactoring of the standalone Affiliates product currently part-written
More than enough to be going on with… The revamp of the Anyname site will have to wait, though I’ll sort out a couple of rendering issues, change a bit of text, and replace some affiliate banners when I’ve time.
