RevolutionTwo – Revolution Themes Go Open Source

Revolution Two Themes For WordPress “Revolution Theme is dead, long live Revolution Two”

Brian Gardner, the brains behind the Revolution Themes – which the Anyname site is built on, has made the bold move to follow the WordPress ethos and make his Revolution Themes Open Source.

So does that mean the all the themes that Revolution One users have paid licence fees for are now just given away? Well, the answer is simply NO. These themes have now been removed from sale and a new breed of Revolution Two themes have been made available. The old Revolution themes are still available to those who paid the licence fee – and all the more valuable for that – and purchasers of exclusive licences have their license transfered over to full support for the new themes.

Although the new themes are GPL licences, support for the themes is paid through one of 2 available packages – “pro” and “pro-plus”. This gives access to support, tips, tweaks & hacks for the new OS themes through the support section of the RevolutionTwo site, as well as direct access to Brian and the development theme.

From Brian’s Blog:

For the current All-Inclusive members…
I wanted to add that anyone who has purchased or upgraded to the current Revolution All-Inclusive membership, you will automatically inherit the ability to receive the aforementioned theme package benefits at no additional cost. This is our way of saying thanks for what you’ve spent already…

The old RevolutionTheme site is no longer available – redirecting to the new RevolutionTwo site. The old support forums haven’t disappeared though, they have been integrated into the new forum in a read-only access for existing RevolutionOne theme users, with licenced users gaining access to exclusing sections of the new forum.

All in all it’s a progressive move, and one no doubt will gain Brian etal much kudos in the forthcoming months.

A first glance of the new themes show a full range, from the exististing free blog theme, to magazine style versions, album styles, as well as professional & media styles. All in all pretty comprehensive, and all with standards complient professionalism you would expect from Revolution.

Revolution Two themes and support can be found here…. Users looking to create a stylish WordPress site, or a premium wordpress theme with a solid 2.6+ complient core would do well to check the themes out.
